What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. -2 Timothy 1:13-14 (NIV)

What is sound teaching? Is it important to identify those “religions” that claim to follow Jesus but define him as less than God or as only one way to the father? How important is it for a pastor to warn his flock of what is being taught by others who claim to be Christian? Does it matter that a certain religion teaches that Jesus was only a created being and not God? Is that true Christianity? Is it OK to pray to and worship Mary, the mother of Jesus? Is there more than one mediator between us and God? Does the Bible teach that Mary sits in heaven today, influencing the decisions of Jesus and the Father?

What would you do if someone came to you and said, “I’m leaving this church because they teach that Jehovah’s Witnesses do NOT teach in accordance with sound doctrine. This church needs to be less judgmental and more inclusive, more tolerant.”

Personally, I am praying that God will remove the blinders from those who are in bondage to the religion of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. And I am praying for the person who has felt the need to leave our fellowship over this issue of sound teaching. Please pray for our church, that God will bring those who will thirst for the truth that will set them free. And pray for harvesters that will go into the harvest fields and spread the good seed of the gospel.
